Arc Browser, developed by The Browser Company, will sunset on December 22, 2026, according to an announcement on Arc’s website.

The company cited security as the primary reason for discontinuing Arc. According to the statement, “Keeping a browser secure takes constant, dedicated work that is only increasing in the age of AI.” The team decided to concentrate engineering and security efforts on Dia, a newly developed browser built from the ground up to meet current security standards.
To ease the transition, Arc’s creators have built migration tools into Dia. According to the company, users’ passwords, bookmarks, extensions, and browsing history will transfer to Dia seamlessly. The statement also notes that Dia preserves Spaces, Folders, and Tab Groups—organizational features from Arc—with data remaining intact during the import process.
The company claims Dia surpasses Arc’s performance benchmarks in stability, speed, and security. Browser features available in Arc are free in Dia, though the company notes that AI features are optional.
In the announcement, the company expressed pride in Arc’s development, stating “We spent years building Arc and celebrating each and every release along the way: we have so much pride and love for what we made alongside the Arc community.” The team behind Arc is the same team developing Dia, and the company indicated that future ambitious work is planned for the new browser.
Arc launched as an alternative browser emphasizing unique organizational features and a redesigned interface. The decision to sunset Arc represents a strategic shift for The Browser Company to consolidate its browser offerings under a single product with enhanced security capabilities.
