Hillary Clinton attended the New York Liberty’s 95-83 win over the Seattle Storm at Barclays Center on Monday night, according to the Brooklyn Eagle. She had a brief conversation with Liberty center Jonquel Jones before tip-off and received a large ovation when she appeared on the jumbotron. Jones said Clinton expressed excitement about being there to watch the team play. The Liberty’s star trio of Breanna Stewart, Jonquel Jones, and Sabrina Ionescu combined for the team’s first 26 points and finished strong in the victory. Stewart led all scorers with 24 points, Jones added 20, and Ionescu contributed 18. The win marked New York’s fifth in six games and improved their record to 18-13. The Liberty built a 10-point lead after the first quarter and extended it with a 15-0 run spanning the third and fourth quarters to open an 85-67 advantage. This was the Liberty’s first wire-to-wire win since May 29. Jones said she encouraged her teammates to finish strong, possibly inspired by Clinton’s presence. New York remained seventh in the playoff standings, one game behind Atlanta and half a game ahead of Washington. Coach Chris DeMarco praised the team’s resilience and the contributions of the bench, noting that ‘it’s going to take everybody’ to reach their goals. Pauline Astier scored 12 points, and the ‘Bench Mob’ of Rebekah Gardner, Marine Johannes, and Han Xu combined for 18 points. The game drew 15,312 attendees. The series finale is scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Barclays Center and will air exclusively on USA Network.
