Launch has become an early investor in Aptera Motors, the solar-powered electric vehicle startup, in a deal that addresses several manufacturing hurdles facing the company.

According to the arrangement, Launch will produce large sub-assemblies for Aptera vehicles at its existing facilities, then ship them to Aptera’s Carlsbad, California location for final assembly and validation. In return, Launch receives stock warrants in Aptera, giving it a financial stake in the company’s success.

The partnership solves multiple production challenges that have confronted other EV startups. Lucid and Rivian, for example, have spent millions building factories to reach production scale. Aptera, by contrast, avoids that capital expenditure by using Launch’s existing infrastructure.

The deal also transforms Aptera’s Carlsbad facility from what would need to be a full manufacturing plant into a focused assembly hub. Rather than maintaining long assembly lines and warehouses of individual components, Aptera now receives finished sub-assemblies ready for final steps. This reduces the physical space and complexity required at its modest commercial building.

Cost control represents another key benefit. Launch, as a large company with an international supply chain, can negotiate lower component prices than Aptera could achieve independently at its smaller scale and volume. This pricing advantage helps Aptera maintain its target price points for customers.

The arrangement aligns incentives across both parties. Launch gains early access to what could become a growing EV manufacturer, while Aptera secures a partner with production expertise and resources. Neither company discloses the exact financial terms beyond the $44 million investment figure.
