Mozilla has introduced Firefox Enterprise, a browser solution designed for organizations seeking on-premises deployment and greater control over data and policies.

According to Mozilla, Firefox Enterprise enables organizations to deploy the browser within their own infrastructure, allowing them to define and audit where data, policies, and management live. The offering emphasizes three core principles: sovereignty, control, and resilience.

The sovereignty aspect allows enterprises to run their management console on their own infrastructure, with the browser remaining open source so organizations can see how it handles their data. Mozilla positions this approach as distinct from traditional enterprise browsers that may rely on external management systems.

On the control front, Firefox Enterprise aims to prevent sensitive data from leaving the browser while providing employees, contractors, and BYOD users secure, identity-based access to internal applications without requiring traditional remote access infrastructure.

Mozilla highlights resilience as another key feature, noting that Firefox Enterprise is built on Mozilla’s independent browser engine. According to the company, this engine diversity reduces shared failure risk and vendor lock-in while integrating with existing security stacks.

Mozilla frames the browser as a critical governance layer, stating: “The browser is where work, data, identity, and AI converge. That makes it a critical layer for governance and compliance — and one many enterprise technology stacks still don’t fully cover.”

The company emphasizes its business model as a differentiator, arguing that Mozilla’s incentives differ from competitors, allowing it to deliver an enterprise solution focused on giving organizations greater autonomy and less ecosystem lock-in.

Firefox Enterprise integrates with existing organizational tooling rather than requiring adoption of a proprietary ecosystem. The browser is built on Mozilla’s own engine, distinguishing it from Chromium-based competitors.

Mozilla has announced that centralized management of Thunderbird email, calendar, and contacts through the Firefox Enterprise console is coming soon. The company also plans to provide IT staff direct access to product support, aiming to help them resolve issues more efficiently.
