Under the reduced rates, GPT-5.6 Sol short context input now costs $2.00 per thousand tokens, down from $4.00, while output costs $10.00 compared to the previous $20.00. For long context, input pricing fell from $8.00 to $4.00, and output from $30.00 to $15.00. Cached input and cache write costs were similarly halved.
The price reduction extends to GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-5.6 Luna models as well. Terra’s short context input dropped from $2.00 to $1.00, with output falling from $12.00 to $6.00. Luna’s short context input fell from $0.20 to $0.10, with output pricing reduced from $1.20 to $0.60.
According to OpenAI’s documentation, the promotional pricing for GPT-5.6 Sol is available at least through November 21, 2026, meaning developers have several months to take advantage of the lower rates before potential price changes.
The move appears designed to encourage adoption of OpenAI’s flagship model among developers. GPT-5.6 Sol remains the company’s most expensive offering in the standard model lineup, though the 50% discount makes it more competitively priced relative to other available models. The pricing adjustment applies to all usage patterns tracked through OpenAI’s API billing system, including standard input, cached input, cache writes, and output token costs.
Other OpenAI models, including GPT-5.6 Terra and Luna, received matching percentage discounts, suggesting a broader promotional initiative rather than a targeted Sol-specific offer.
