Silo season 3, episode 9 “Farewell” opens with Bernard (Tim Robbins) surrendering through the pulley system to meet with Camille (Alexandria Riley). He proposes a trade with the Algorithm: he’ll publicly accept blame for multiple crimes—including Mary Meadows’s death and ordering the deaths of Jahns and Marnes—in exchange for Juliette’s (Rebecca Ferguson) release and an end to the Vitamin D+ program. The Algorithm, speaking through Camille, rejects the offer, calculating that its original plan benefits the silo more. Bernard remains in custody.
After the exchange, Bernard confides to Camille something crucial: the Algorithm’s tone when ending the call—clipped and almost annoyed—suggested something impossible. Machines don’t get frustrated. People do. Bernard concludes the Algorithm isn’t a machine at all, but a person in Silo 1 controlling everyone’s fate. A person can be defeated.
Camille announces Bernard’s sentence to the silo: cleaning at noon. Martha reveals to the rebels that Bernard’s execution is a distraction for their next move, which depends on something Paul Billings discovered—a serious Pact violation that only Juliette can reveal. Their immediate goal is reaching Water Filtration on level 55.
Camille meets privately with Juliette, offering a deal: help manage the coming transition by recruiting one representative from each department to retrain the population after the memory drug takes full effect. Juliette quickly grasps the catch—those representatives will eventually forget too. Camille plans to keep her own memories and bear the burden alone, which Juliette refuses.
Knox and Shirley lead a crowd toward Water Filtration. When Camille orders raiders to stop them, Juliette defuses the confrontation by publicly denying the drug rumors, insisting it’s only vitamin D. Her control over the crowd impresses Camille, who then reveals her true intention: Juliette will die, everyone else lives, and Camille will ensure she’s remembered as a hero. Juliette is ordered prepared for cleaning.
In a final scene before his execution, Bernard tells Juliette the truth. He turned himself in to buy Martha and the others time to act. More importantly, he confirms the season’s biggest revelation: the voice they’ve feared as a higher intelligence is human—someone in Silo 1, flesh and blood, deciding everyone’s fates. Bernard tells Juliette she’s a unifier and that both her people and he believe she can face this person. He then steps out for cleaning without a suit.
