Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day delivered a record-breaking global opening of more than $31 million across SCREENX and 4DX combined, according to CJ 4DPLEX. The film achieved the biggest opening weekend in the entertainment technology company’s history.

Domestically, both premium formats set new opening weekend records. SCREENX generated $7 million, representing 2.6 times its previous opening weekend record. 4DX delivered its biggest opening weekend ever, generating $5.2 million from 77 locations while achieving a per-screen average of $68,000, described as the highest among all premium formats. Cineplex Laval was the top-performing domestic SCREENX location with a $315,000 gross and 91% occupancy, while Regal Times Square 4DX, the world’s largest 4DX auditorium, led all domestic 4DX locations with $200,000 gross and 94% occupancy.
Internationally, Spider-Man: Brand New Day generated $19 million across SCREENX and 4DX, with strong performances reported in the United Kingdom, India, Australia, Mexico, France, Germany, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand.
According to CJ 4DPLEX, SCREENX set new records in 34 countries and 4DX established new records in 19 countries. The film was “Shot for SCREENX,” marking the first collaboration between CJ 4DPLEX and the filmmakers from on-set production through theatrical exhibition. Director Destin Daniel Cretton designed the experience specifically for SCREENX’s 270-degree panoramic format.
SCREENX is a multi-projection cinema technology that extends the main screen onto surrounding auditorium walls. 4DX enhances immersion by synchronizing motion seats and environmental effects including wind, vibration, lightning, scent, and water with on-screen action. The film stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo. CJ 4DPLEX is a subsidiary of South Korea’s CJ Group.
