Uribe bounces back from NLCS struggles in Brewers' World Series Game 1 win

Abner Uribe delivered a strong performance for the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 1 of the World Series against the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday, pitching a scoreless 1⅓ innings in the team’s 3-2 victory.

Uribe had entered the series as a minor concern following a poor outing in Game 3 of the NL Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. In that game, he came on to begin the sixth inning with a 1-0 lead but struggled with control, issuing three walks in the inning. He walked Teoscar Hernandez, Kyle Tucker, and Shohei Ohtani to load the bases, then allowed Will Smith to hit a two-run double that put the Dodgers ahead 2-1. Manager Pat Murphy removed Uribe in favor of left-hander DL Hall.

According to the report, Uribe’s Game 3 appearance was his seventh straight postseason outing, which may have contributed to his struggles. He did not pitch in the Brewers’ clinching Game 4 victory over the Dodgers, giving him eight days off before returning for Game 1 of the World Series.

In Game 1, Uribe showed he had recovered from his NLCS hiccup. Entering in the sixth inning with the Brewers leading 2-1, he faced the top of the Rays’ lineup. He induced a groundout from Yandy Diaz, then struck out Chandler Simpson on a 2-2 slider before catcher William Contreras threw out Jonathan Aranda attempting to steal second, completing a strike-’em-out, throw-’em-out double play.

Uribe returned for the seventh inning to face Junior Caminero, the Rays’ most dangerous hitter, and struck him out swinging. He finished his outing having thrown 15 pitches with 12 strikes.

According to the source, Uribe has been an integral part of the Brewers’ bullpen all season. His strong performance in Game 1 erased concerns about his NLCS outing and demonstrated that he remained a key weapon for the team as they pursued their first championship in franchise history.
