Uzbek professional boxer Javokhir Ummataliyev is holding a training camp in California to prepare for his next bout, according to an interview with the Uzbekistan Boxing Federation.

Ummataliyev traveled to the United States for the first time and is currently based in Indio, where he continues training under the guidance of the Diaz brothers—who also work with boxers Muradjon Akhmadaliev and Bektemir Melikuziev. He is also sparring with a coach named Julio in Los Angeles.
A significant focus of his preparation has been joint training sessions with American boxer Shakur Stevenson. According to Ummataliyev, the two trained together three times in Las Vegas and sparred at Floyd Mayweather’s gym. After their sessions, Stevenson provided feedback on Ummataliyev’s technique and offered advice. The boxers also shared a lighter moment during sparring when Ummataliyev demonstrated a stretching exercise that Stevenson was unable to perform, prompting Stevenson to jokingly tell him, “You are crazy.”
Ummataliyev noted that Stevenson is familiar with Uzbek boxers. Stevenson mentioned competing alongside Muradjon Akhmadaliev at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and said he had followed Ummataliyev’s fights, specifically highlighting his bout against Arlen Lopez. Stevenson also invited Ummataliyev to train with him in Las Vegas at any time.
According to Ummataliyev, professional boxing in the United States differs from amateur boxing primarily in training approach. Professional boxing emphasizes power and punch quality, while amateur boxing focuses more on speed and scoring points.
Ummataliyev has signed a contract with British promotional company Queensberry Promotions, which works with fighters including Tyson Fury, Daniel Dubois, Moses Itauma, and Fabio Wardley. He did not disclose contract terms.
During his stay, Ummataliyev also visited UFC headquarters in Las Vegas, where he met several organization champions. He noted that fellow Uzbek boxer Rakhmatillo Boymatov recently signed with Zuffa Boxing and underwent assessment at the UFC facility.
Ummataliyev’s opponent for his September fight has not yet been determined, though he expects the matter to be resolved within one to two weeks. In professional boxing, he introduces himself as “Javlo” due to pronunciation difficulties in English, though he plans for fans to know him by his surname Ummataliyev in the future.
